Forman Farms is located in Seeley’s Bay, Ontario. We produce lots of fresh produce, flora, grain and pellets as well as provide local farming services.
Charlie grows corn, wheat and soybeans along with sons Andrew and Ben. The soybeans are food grade and grown for export. The corn and grain are shipped to various customers. We also install tile drainage for local farmers, provide trucking services for crop harvest, and offer equipment and operator rentals for large landscaping projects. Switchgrass is grown and used in the production of pellets for biomass fuel and horse bedding, marketed by Forman Farms' sister company SwitchGreen. The pellet mill produces enough pellets to heat our greenhouses, supply several farms with high quality horse bedding, and warm the homes of our residential customers.
From early November to Christmas the greenhouse staff is busy turning Christmas greens into arrangements in the form of hanging baskets, patio pots and wreaths either pre-made or custom. Fir trees are being planted annually as well; the first planting will mature in 2015 for Christmas.
The greenhouse was expanded in 2009 to increase space to a half acre. This included 2 full houses of cherry and grape tomatoes, 5 houses of beefsteak and cluster tomatoes and 2 houses of flowers. In 2010 three additional hoop houses were added to accommodate increasing demand for flowers from our two retail greenhouses as well as for our custom floral orders.
Forman Farms operates under a sound Environmental Farm Plan in accordance with Canadian standards. We use compost on our farm fields and renewable energy crops to heat the greenhouse. Forman Farms is a member of Local Flavours, an organization that promotes local food producers.
